Antwerp Freight Museum- Taylor
One thing at the Freight Museum that I found especially interesting is the different theories about how Antwerp was founded. One story is that the Romans founded the city when a Roman soldier defeated a giant. After continued research, it is thought that the city was actually founded by Vickings. This is because the original layout of the city is similar to that of Vicking villages. I was glad to learn more about this after Adam told us about the giant statue and the roman soldier and after Brianna and I went to Het Steen.

I definitely liked the different theories on how the city was founded. I think it would be interesting to see if they do prove one of the theories on which power founded the city.
I also really enjoyed learning about the different theories of how Antwerp was created. My favorite part of these theories is how the city developed overtime. I thought it was really cool to learn that initially the city used canals but eventually the canals had to get covered up to allow growth for the city.
The theories are really interesting and what surprised me is how much the city embraces them. Seeing the multiple different statues of a giants hand or a Roman soldier was really cool
It’s truly fascinating how rich the history of Antwerp is. After the Het Steen visit, I am very curious about the potential impact vikings could’ve had on that city. Though, I was surprised that our tour guide didn’t seem too fond of Het Steen.
I think that it provided great insight into how archeological research is still affected how we view history today.
